Investigation of leaching in steel fiber-reinforced shotcrete exposed to fresh and saline groundwater in a subsea road tunnel

The field and laboratory investigations performed in the Frøya subsea road tunnel, constructed between 1998 2000, focus on degree of leaching undergone by steel fiber-reinforced shotcrete fresh saline groundwater. Shotcrete samples were extracted core drilling at two locations: middle tunnel approximately 150 m below sea level, near one portals. Leaching is only evident first location identified portlandite reduction, potassium density suction porosity increase towards traffic room. leached depth 9 cm. • Field study condition after 22 years service Permanent lining as single shell rock support a Chlorine sulfur originating from room penetrate 7 cm shotcrete.
